In what is claimed to be the first Nepali commercial feature film to be also shot in the US, the official screening of ‘Nepal’ was held at Jai Nepal Cinema Hall today amidst a small function attended by film stars and members of the media fraternity. ‘Nepal’ is a joint effort of Sudhamshu Joshi, Rajan Kumar Shahi, Nirmal Sharma and Dayaram Dahal. “Nepal is my dream project. It aims to educate people into loving not only Nepal but is a movie that attempts to relay Lord Buddha’s message of peace to the world,” stated Sudhamshu Joshi who leaves for the US on the 2nd of January, 2008 to get back to his work. Just to let you know, he has been in town in connection with the release of ‘Nepal’ for the past four months.
The primary message of the movie is ‘Love Nepal and the world’
, claims Nirmal Sharma,
one of the producers along with Joshi
. “It is a commercial entertainer that tries to drive home the message of peace. It is about a Nepali who lives abroad but then returns to his birthplace to bring about social changes” added Sudhamshu
during our brief conversation with him. Besides some scenes shot in Manhattan and Times Square, ‘Nepal’
also showcases some beautiful locations of Nepal including Mustang and Pokhara. The star cast also includes Rajesh Hamal, Dhiren Shakya, Sanchita Liuntel, Sajja Mainali, Deepak Raj Giri, Shanti Maskey, Gopal Bhutani
among others. An in and out commercial flick with relevance in today’s context and a must see if you are a regular Nepali movie buff; even if it is just for curiosity sake and intend to find out what all the noise is about. Jai Nepal!
