Veteran singer Prem Dhoj Pradhan mesmerized the audience with his voice, when he rendered 18 of his evergreen songs at the Paleti Series at Nepalaya's r-sala last Friday. The evening started with "Maya Namara Mayalu" which happens to be the first recorded song of the maestro. Pradhan, 72 sounded amazingly vibrant and energetic while singing as his fingers floated on the keys of the harmonium. Performing solo after four decades, he kept the audience hypnotized with songs like ‘Taara Matra Haina Timilai’, ‘Tadha Laijau Phoolharu’, ‘Yo Naniko Shiraima’, ‘Goreto Tyo Gaunko’ and ‘Ghumtima Na Aau Hai’ to name a few. Singer Sangita Pradhan lent her voice for the duet ‘Na Mana Laj Yastari’.
"It was an amazing experience to sing with an artiste of his status," She said. "It was not as easy to record those days. We had to trek to Hetauda through Bhimphedi before catching a bus to the Indian border to board a train to Calcutta." The audience were indebted for the contribution of his generation towards Nepali music. Premdhoj has always been a dedicated and honest individual towards his creative profession, senior lyricist Ratna Shamser Thapa said. Coordinator of the Paleti series Aavaas expressed his gratitude towards the singer for being a part of the Paleti family. "We had a tough time to shortlist fourteen songs from his numerous popular numbers" he said.
Paleti Series, which started in 2005, features a prominent music artiste every last Friday of the English month. "The Paleti calendar for 2008 has already been finalized with reputed artistes from Nepal and India." informed Kiran Krishna Shrestha, Team Leader of Nepa~laya. The opportunity to enjoy quality music in the close proximity of artistes has become the strength of Paleti Series. Next Paleti will feature Shantanu Kumar Limbu from Manipur, Imphal in India on 29th February.
